catPreparing yourself for Colds and Influenza

With school back in full swing, it’s that time of year again – whether the kids bring home lots of germs or that trip to the grocery store gave you more than you bargained for, we have some basic ideas to help you be ready for it.

Eat Lightly – clear broths and lightly cooked vegetables and fruits are easily digestible, which allows your immune system the ability to focus on the bug you have, or any infection that may have started.

Foods to Avoid – dairy, sugars and processed foods tend to weaken or distract the immune system and may increase the duration of any infection or bug you may be harboring.

Use Garlic – which helps to clear the lungs and has strong antimicrobial properties. Use 1-2 cloves of freshly chopped garlic in your broths, soups and vegetables or other meals.

Stay Well Hydrated – drink 8-10 glasses of water daily to flush the toxins from the bug/infection away from your body.

Wash Your Hands!kid This one speaks for itself….

REST, REST, REST –we cannot stress this one enough! While you are ill, the body needs to fight whatever ails you, so if you feel a sore throat, headache, congestion, etc., coming on; take it easy. If possible, take a day off from work (this is where that ounce of prevention pays off), it might just keep you from missing additional work later on.

Supplements – while each situation is different, we can advise you on what will be best for your treatment options.
